Threnody - Sydney Fringe Festival

'Who is to blame when the thief breaks the vault?'

The flagship production of The Hermetic Theatre Company, Threnody tells the story of a young girl on the precipice of maturity. Questions of morality, sexuality, voyeurism and death abound in a fractured narrative that follows three distinct worlds of mystery, memory and magic, silhouetted by a neo-spiritual score that erupts from the earth. It's dark. It's sexy. It's weird.

One Love

In a year when KISS were singing "I was made for loving you" and Racey were asking us to "Lay your love on me", I was listening to my favourite album - "Natty Dread". That year, my mum and dad did an amazing thing for me. On April 27th 1979, they took me to the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney to see Bob Marley and The Wailers. I still remember it vividly and still think about the fact that so many Bob Marley fans didn't get to see him live.

My name is Brendan and I am proud to present One love - a tribute to the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers. It's performed by a hugely talented group of friends with lots in common, the biggest being a mutual love of and respect for the music. Bob Marley's music transgresses everything - race, colour, religion, age.

The Audreys

The Audreys are a folk-rock act from Adelaide, Australia. Taasha sings and plays tiny guitars and keys, and Tristan plays normal-sized guitars and doesn't sing. Their first three records all won the ARIA award for Best Blues and Roots Album. Their fourth, 2014's 'Til My Tears Roll Away, only got a nomination, but that's not stopping them working on a fifth.

Over the last ten years they've graced almost every major festival in Australia, toured Europe and North America, sold songs to films and television shows far and wide, written music for TV, theatre and even dance shows, hit the charts, gone gold, and pawned their very hearts for rock ’n’ roll … and all without crumpling their vintage op-shop duds.

John Lennon tribute act Gary Gibson’s uncanny resemblance to the late John Lennon has created a furore wherever he has turned up, even amongst the ranks of those who knew and loved Lennon well.

We feature the type of songs that I think Lennon might well have chosen on the world tour he was planning at the time of his shocking death,” said Gary.

Yossarian

Post art-rock band Yossarian are a difficult bunch to pin down. Their lyrics are dark, melancholic and ambiguous, drifting between themes of meaningless mortality and universal human dreams and nightmares. The vocals are dealt out starkly over an ever changing landscape that shifts between ethereal soundscapes, building accelerating guitars and orchestral layers which resemble the musical love child of Arcade Fire and Pink Floyd.
